Dr. Richard Haas Named Program Director of the Year

Dr. Richard Haas was awarded Program Director of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists at their Annual Spring Symposium in May 2013. Dr. Haas was recently appointed the Director of York College’s Graduate Nursing Program, in addition to his position as the Director of York College / WellSpan Health Nurse Anesthetist Program. Dr. Haas is admired by students and faculty throughout the department of nursing. He is a devoted leader and inspires the graduate nursing students on a daily basis.

Award for Student Presentations

Amy Reed ’14 and Jason Huffman ’14  took 1st and 2nd place for their presentations at the 2013 Spring Anesthesia Conference sponsored by Allegheny Anesthetists. Amy won 1st place with her presentation on the History of Curare and Jason won 2nd place with his presentation on Artificial Hemoglobin. Well done!

Amanda Rossman Wins National Nurse Anesthetist Student Writing Contest

Amanda Rossman ’13 wrote the winning manuscript in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Student Writing Contest. Her manuscript was titled “The Physiology of the Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor and its Importance in the Administration of Anesthesia.” As winner of the national contest, Rossman is recognized at the AANA’s annual meeting in Boston in August, 2011, her paper is listed as a continuing education offering by the Association, and she received a cash award. There are 111 CRNA programs in the United States that enroll some 2,500 students. Rossman’s was the only student chosen for the writing award.

Nurse Anesthetist Program Faculty Win International Award!

The CRNA Program Faculty, in conjunction with the Medical Simulation Center at WellSpan Health, have received notice that their research abstract, #290, entitled, Physiologic Stress Levels during Simulated and Actual Anesthesia Administration by Student Nurse Anesthetists, has been chosen as the overall winning abstract submitted for the 11th Annual International Medical Simulation in Healthcare Conference.  The study also placed first in the “Human Factors” category.

The research team included Dr. Haas, Professors Lowe and Burtnett from the CRNA Program, Dr. Duane Patterson from the WellSpan Health Medical Simulation Center, Dr. Urs Nater, University of Zurich and Dr. Douglas Arbittier, Chairman, Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, York Hospital.  To download the abstract click here.
