A 1982 graduate of East Carolina University (BSN), Professor Burtnett received his Master in Health Services degree from Texas Wesleyan University in 1987 and completed the United States Army Anesthesiology for Army Nurse Officers program in 1988. During his 22-year Army career he held anesthesia faculty appointments from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and University of South Carolina.
He is employed by Wellspan Health and holds a faculty appointment at York College of Pennsylvania, teaching mainly junior and senior level courses. He maintains a practice of clinical anesthesia at Wellspan, where he is an asset as a clinical instructor.
